Central Mass Senior Music Festival winners

Sent on behalf of Ms. Lisa Leach, Performing Arts Liaison:

The Worcester Public Schools is pleased to announce the following winners at the recent Central Massachusetts Senior Music Festival auditions. These students competed against more than 900 students in grades 9-12 from throughout Worcester County. Students accepted into the honors ensembles scored in the top 40% of students. Students who received All-State audition recommendations scored in the top 10% of students.

Results printed in the T & G:  Marching Bands, Musical: first place, Immaculate Heart of Mary; second place, South High Community School Marching Band; third place (tie), Douglas High School Band and Southbridge High School Band; fourth place, Millbury High School Band.

Color Guards/Drill Teams: first place, North High School JROTC; second place, South High Community School JROTC; third place, Burncoat High School JROTC; fourth place, Worcester Cadet Squadron Civil Air Patrol.

Gold Rating for the Woodwind Trio

MICCA Festival, May 10, 2014

South High Community School sent 24 students to the MICCA Solo and Ensemble Festival. Each of the solos and ensembles garnered a medal.

"MICCA" stands for Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association.

The South High Woodwind Trio not only received the gold rating, but were also chosen by their judge as the Gold Medal recipients who best represented the festival. As a result of this designation, they were asked to perform at the MICCA Honors Concert on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

The band won the Harp Award at 2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade, from the St. Patrick's Day committee.

 

First as Best Musical Marching Band

"Awards were handed out following the parade to the participants. Tied for first as best musical marching band were the South High School Marching Band and the Douglas High School Band. Tied for second place were the Southbridge High School Band and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Millbury High School Band received a third place award."
